The coldest Arctic Outbreak in several years is on the doorstep. A large snowpack in North America, including Canada and much of the US, combined with extreme blocking in Greenland, will set into motion the large dome of cold air and send it hurtling our way by early Friday. A weak low in Alabama early Friday could skirt our area with light precip, but it looks weak and should mainly affect the eastern sections, but something to watch.
By Friday afternoon, the winds will begin to pick up and the colder air will start to come in, sending temps downward.
By Friday night, we go well below freezing and it's possible that Shelby doesn't get back up to Freezing until Wednesday of next week! Saturday high temps will struggle to hit 30, and that could be optimistic. The winds and windchills will also be notable.
Unfortunately for snow lovers, this looks like a cold dry period...that is until middle or late next week when a new storm comes toward the area. That one has potential, but they all do that far out. We'll see if we can land a big snow from all this cold air. One thing is certain...the ground will be frozen much of next week, so anything that falls will stick immediately.
Here's the Rutherford and Cleveland County Forecast:
Friday...Cloudy early, then clearing afternoon. Becoming windy with falling temperatures. Highs mid 40's.
Friday Night...Clear, windy and very cold. Lows near 20.
Saturday...Sunny, windy and bitter cold. Highs near 32.
Saturday Night...Clear and bitter cold. Lows near 15.
Sunday...Sunny. Highs near 32.
Sunday Night...Clear and cold. Lows near 10 to 15.
Monday...Partly cloudy with a chance of flurries. Highs near 32.
Monday Night...Partly cloudy. Lows near 20.
Stay tuned for next week's possibilities!
Be sure to check on the elderly and vulnerable to the cold, take all the cautions for pipe bursting and car maintenance....we aren't used to prolong cold weather like whats coming up.
