WHEN WILL IT RAIN? Notice the big green question mark I've put over western NC this weekend. That's because we have a chance at some actual rain falling, as opposed to the Riddler from Batman, although in all likelihood he has a better chance at making an appearance lately! We're going through the driest June I can recall, with almost nothing falling in the southern half of both Rutherford and Cleveland Counties this month. The upper parts of the area near the higher elevations have had a few showers and thunderstorms, but the flow is perfect to miss the entire highway 74 and Interstate 85 region altogether, just like last Summer. What's happening now is a decent change, with a dip in the jetstream over the Southeast, with much cooler weather for a few days. The models are indicating a strong disturbance to head our way late Friday night, and then another over the weekend, with showers and T'storms possible. I''m skeptical at this point, but I have to tell you about it. Check the website to see if this is phantom or friend. One bit of good news for the long range: El Nino is developing. We can only hope it's a strong one and hurries up!
THE FORECAST...For our readers in Forest City, Shiloh and Delight
Friday...Partly sunny. Highs mid 80's.
Friday Night Through Sunday...Partly cloudy with a chance of showers and T-storms. Highs low/mid 80's. Lows mid 60's.
I thought El Nino wasn't our friend. Can you help me understand this a little better.
ReplyDeleteTotal rainfall for the month at my location was 0.22"
ReplyDeleteEl Nino is a warming of the Pacific Ocean near the Equator. Usually when that happens, the subtropical jetstream is enhanced quite a bit, this leads to a very active southern storm track from California to the Gulf Coast and up to the Carolinas. In Winter, it usually gives us many cold rains (and a snow or ice storm threat) and in Spring we can have rains every few days...something missing from the past several years. Hopefully our current La nina is on the way out, so we can have some hope of getting out of this drought, atleast for a little while.
