RAINS ON THE WAY! Before I get to the good news, let's look back on some astounding records for June. It was the 2nd hottest for both Cleveland and Rutherford Counties. As far as rain (what rain?), there was almost none, except for a few small cells (powerful at that) in some areas around Kings Mountain, and again around the upper sections. Rutherfordton Airport recorded only .11", Shelby Airport had .52", Asheville had .85" and Greenville-Spartanburg had .13". All of these represent the lowest amount ever recorded in June! I'm sure some neighborhoods didn't see one drop, while others saw a few inches if you got under a powerful storm. Definitely dustbowl historical times for our area, as no place in the country is drier than southern Rutherford and Cleveland Counties (except the desert). Now the good stuff. Finally, we'll say good bye to eternal High Pressure, hello big puffy, rain filled clouds. And for several days! Beginning late Friday night, moisture will increase rapidly, and we will be stuck under sticky, humid skies for quite a spell. It may not rain every day in every place, but I think all of us will get some decent showers by early next week. Hey, it's a start. Happy 4th!
