VERY HEAVY RAINS ON THE WAY

***THURSDAY UPDATE****

The front appears to be slowing down. This setup is classic for heavy rainfall over the Western Carolinas and Georgia. Spotty showers develop later Friday and by midnight Friday night the real heavy and steady rain begins. The first half of Saturday looks like a soaker. This could easily be our biggest rainmaker since March 1st of 2007! The most reliable model continues to increase amounts. Right now, there's a probability of atleast 1" of rain over the entire area, with the possibility of 2" or even approaching 3" by later Saturday afternoon.

A WEEK OF CLOUDS! We'll soon bid the many days of clouds and drizzle goodbye, and what a send off it will be. The Cleveland/Rutherford corridor has been socked in since last weekend with a raw northeast wind flow that typically occurs in Winter, and some areas have seen measurable rain too, along with the mist. By Friday night, a strong cold front will come through and it has the potential to bring trouble. Severe weather may erupt overnight and into Saturday morning, so be on guard. Otherwise, a period of heavy rain and thunderstorms will finally come to an end along the Highway 74 corridor by about midday Saturday, with clearing possible by Saturday afternoon, especially for our friends in Lake Lure, Rutherfordton and Spindale areas. By Sunday, we're all sunny. Get ready for allergy season!

THE FORECAST...

Friday and Saturday...Mostly cloudy with showers and thunderstorms, especially overnight. Possible clearing late Saturday. Highs lower 70s.
Saturday Night...Clearing skies, possible dense fog. Lows mid 50's.
Sunday...Sunshine finally! Highs lower 70s.

  3. In south Shelby, I measured .37" Thursday, .39" Friday, .47" Saturday and .02" early Sunday morning. A strong line of convection along the Alabama and Florida Gulf Coast prevented the heavy rains from forming up here, so Cleveland County really missed out on the 2" rains that could have fallen Saturday. Still, we've had quite a wet spell over the last 10 days. Thanks for reading, Hopefully more rain by next weekend.
