Rain Saturday Morning, Then Much Colder

A very deep trough will form over the East beginning Sunday, and linger into Tuesday. Cold air aloft in April usually means quick showers or even T'storms could develop in the afternoons, and are capable of dropping cold rain, or even sleet or hail, and even wet snow if the surface temps are cold enough. Any snow with this would probably be confined to the mountains, as close by as Lake Lure, South Mountains and Golden Valley area. Clouds will dissipate after dark, and temperatures could drop close to freezing. Click the map below to view how deep this trough is from Sunday until Tuesday. Record cold possible, especially in Alabama, Georgia and even Florida.
COLD AND UNSETTLED! More rain and cold temps are just around the bend, possibly frost/freezing Monday night and again Tuesday night. We may catch a day or two of sun and warmer air but come Saturday night, here comes another Canadian airmass with disturbances galore. Snow, yes SNOW, will fall all across northern Georgia and western NC, possibly even down to Lake Lure and Golden Valley, on more day than one, beginning Sunday. Uh, yeah, its' April, hard to believe. We also have to keep a real close eye on a strong disturbance rounding the bend of the deep Eastern US trough, for possible Atlantic development, but for Shelby and Forest City, I'd expect partly cloudy skies and cool days to rule, but it wouldn't take much to round us up an interesting storm. Nights will see almost freezing temps. It's possible some thunderstorms could pop with the cold air aloft, which would produce hail. Spring in the Carolinas!
