The Biggest Thing to Hit Cleveland County Since Livermush, Sundrop and Bridges BBQ
The much advertised winter storm is taking shape this morning. A deep low will cross into southern Georgia, throwing snow sleet and rain over the highway 74 region all day, and depending on where you are will determine what you get. At any point and in any place north of Interstate 85 you could be any precip type, but generally more snow toward Rutherford and upper Cleveland county, more mixing toward the southern and eastern sections.
The big dog barks tonight. All indications are we switch over to snow, and heavy snow from northern Georgia to all across the western Carolinas once our surface low reaches Savannah, Ga. By then, the moisture will increase rapidly and dynamics will generate a wide shield of heavy fluffy snow, that spreads east, covering all the region west of Charlotte (and they change over too eventually).
Snow will fall hard with this band for a good 6 hours, also the winds will pick up as the coastal storm deepens and rides up the coast as an old fashioned Nor'easter. This track normally dumps atleast 6" of snow on Cleveland County, but in this case theres so much moisture and such phenomenal dynamics that some sections of western NC will get over a foot of snow. Hard to say who gets that much, but generally areas along Interstate 40 near Hickory to Asheville and Lenoir areas could see that much, perhaps more!
The forecast....
Snow , sleet and some rain today, switching back and forth. More snow north and west sections of the foothills. Temps steady near 32.
Tonight: Heavy snow developing everywhere from Charlotte and west. Accumulations rapidly pile up. Temps droppng near 30, Windy!
Saturday ....snow ends by morning. Cold for the next few days.
Here's a map of the latest computer models snow amounts: use with caution, these can be off, good or bad. But it shows Cleveland County near a foot!
