HEAT WAVE COMING !

SHADES OF LAST AUGUST! We start the new month where last August left off, with a broiling heat wave, although right now it doesn't look as intense as last August. A strong dome of high heat will build over the nation's heartland and set the Plains and Midwest on fire first, before unleashing the extreme heat our way early next week. Right now it doesn't look quite as hot as last year's 104 degrees, but 99 to 100 or even 101 is possible. Even worse, our rain chances, what little we had, gets knocked down another notch, which equates to the double whammy of high heat, fast evaporation rates and evaporating water supplies. Unfortunately, this heat wave looks long lasting also, so our already scorched ground will take yet another hit. Over the weekend, a weak front comes through on northwest winds, but this will only serve to open the oven door with downsloping hot furnace-like winds. Be sure to check on the elderly and those without much air conditioning each day. This kind of heat is dangerous. Stay cool! THE FORECAST...For our readers in Lattimore, Ellenboro and Kings Mountain FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY...Sunny and hot, slight chance of T'storms. Highs upper 90's, warming to around 100 next week. Lows 70 to 75.
