HEAT WAVE AND DROUGHT...Two features you don't want side by side, and we're unlucky enough to have both. The nation (outside of Texas) is baking under one of the worst heat waves and droughts in modern times, and it's getting worse for some places. Here in NC, we're lucky enough to have a slight cool down by Friday and into the weekend, with even a few showers scattered around. The storms, what few there will be, will come in from the north, a very odd place to be looking for our rain, but we'll take what we can get. The huge dome of intense heat that cooked us earlier this week will edge just far enough west to allow slightly cooler air to work down over us. The tropics are showing signs of life now, and the models are onto it. There's a strong wave coming off Africa now, and during the next week to 10 days we may have a hurricane to be tracking across the Caribbean Sea. The steering winds could direct it toward the Southeast and Gulf States...Stay tuned! THE FORECAST...
Friday...HOT! Highs near 100, but afternoon storms are possible. Friday Night Through Sunday...Partly cloudy, slightly cooler. Very slight chance of showers or storms. Highs low 92 to 96, lows near 70.
