Keep An Eye On The Tropics

WATCHING THE TROPICS...After some midweek rains, and an unusually cool start to the week, we have a quiet weekend in store. All the action will be to our west, and in the tropics near the Bahamas and Cuba. A sunny high pressure will cover us over the weekend, but the forecast takes an interesting turn later next week. It looks like the storm in the Plains will stay put and gradually turn our winds out of the Gulf by next week. Meanwhile, we could have a named storm, either "Fay" or "Gustav", heading toward the Southeast or Gulf by later in the week. It's way too early to know where either system goes, but for now it's something to keep an eye on. We could certainly use the rain from either system, as parts of Cleveland and Rutherford counties have less than 2" of rain for the entire Summer. It's even drier just to our south, along Interstate 85.

THE FORECAST...For our readers in Mooresboro, Earl and Rutherfordton
Friday Through Sunday...Partly sunny, a very slight risk of an afternoon storm. Highs mid/upper 80's, Lows mid 60's.

  2. Will do. As of Saturday morning, almost all the models are still bringing this into the Southeast "somewhere". Its going to be impossible to nail down specifics right now, but anyone from Texas to Florida to the Carolinas have to watch this storm. We could use the rain from it, and where it comes inland, they will get a ton of it. We'll keep watching to get more agreement. I think by Monday or Tuesday we'll have a real good idea of exactly where she goes.
