Snow. And Lots of it.

The biggest snow in 22 years is on the doorstep. Cold arctic high is overperforming and the models are just now getting a clue with the temps aloft and the surface. Snow should break out this evening for all of western NC and get heavy overnight. As the upper level energy intensifies over northern Georgia and the western Carolinas, the snow will come down extremely hard, sometimes greater than 1" per hour all over western NC from Asheville to Charlotte.
Just to our south, in upper SC, around Greenville and Rock Hill, there could be mixing with sleet, or even turning to all sleet, its a tight call.
Meanwhile our temperatures are going to drop into the upper 20's by midnight, and probably drop into middle 20's by early morning. The snow should end by lunchtime or so.  Cold air dumps in behind this system and turns everything into a block of cement.

Make plans and preparations now because roads will become impassable shortly after the storm gets started and most likely no one will be able to travel this weekend.  Stay safe and enjoy the snow!

Here's a satellite pic of our incoming storm:

My best call on snow and ice amounts:
